Japanese mangas meet Nu Rave at Selfridges this month. The windows are a neon feast of structures of fluo tubes and plexiglas cubes in violently bright blues, pinks and yellows. The mannequins are playfully wearing giant-sized cardboard accessories, and amusing plastic animals that seem to have come straight out of a Japanese cartoon share the space with them in the windows.
The garments revolve once again around a sports theme – A/W 08 is here, and sportswear-meets-couture is a big trend this season (just have a look at Miu Miu’s latest collection). The other strong theme is, of course, the 80′s inspiration – those Nu Rave kids out there are having a blast and fashion has been all too happy to cater for them lately. Neoprene hoodies against pixelated background – Selfridges once again nail it absolutely spot on.
